I read about people getting Xbox controllers etc working, is there even a glimmer of hope for me here?

I can get as far as installing the drivers but the joystick, but the setup does not take me to the calibration page, joystick is still listed as unrecognized in the device manager, is USB support only for Mass Storage devices exclusively? I have the Windows 98 drivers for this joystick (Which I was able to attain only by asking Saitek via email), they removed the W98 drivers from their official drivers list, removed their forums etc etc so I`ve lost the single biggest resource I can think of. I`ve been trying to get my Saitek X52 USB joystick working on Windows 98 guest in all sorts of virtual PC`s, VMWare, Microsoft Virtual PC, VirtualBox, you name it. It’s a computer that HAS TO run Win98 because of the particular A-D sensor technology employed. Before I ask for help I find it appropriate to mention that I`ve exhausted all resources the way I see it, I`ve googled, yahoo`ed, hotbot`ed and what not inbetween from here to Japan and back without any luck what so ever in solving the problem, I did a forum search but at this time I`m just too tired and spent to even be arsed to source and look my way through time and again. I will say that at certain times, the printer on/off switch was disabled and I had to unplug the DC to get it to turn off. I tried various other combinations of rebooting with printer and without printer attached/powered on&off. I grabbed a brand new and shorter USB cable. I looked at the entire system with a program called SIW which just gave me more confirmation (and with greater detail) that Dev Mgr is telling the truth. I looked a the USB setup using a program called USBDeview. I looked at the BIOS and found that all USB settings are “enabled”. I looked at the IRQ steering and it agrees perfectly with a website I found on the subject. (Note: Sytem uses a PS2 arrangement for mouse/keyboard normally) So at this point, I think the hardware and the port are fine. Inserted it, and Win98SE immediately processed it and created a drive which worked fine. I brought in a USB thumbdrive less than 1gB. System detected it and set up the keyboard. I brought in a USB mouse, and the port is alive, recognizing the mouse as a new HID device. I’ve visited Dev Mgr and ensured that both the Root Hub and USB Controller are present and working. I have to come clean here – I’m actually trying to awaken the USB ports, so I can connect a USB printer – an HP7350 DJet. Can anyone shoot me some hints? Could it be that the 8gig thumb drive is just too big for SE to recognize?

I’d like some help figuring out how to use the USB ports on this computer. Checked device mgr and there are no yellow triangles and under USB ports I see the root hub and the controller listed and reported as working fine.

#WINDOWS 98 USB CONTROLLER SOFTWARE#

I should be seeing something akin to what I’m used to seeing with XP – Found New Hardware, Windows is searching.loading software to use with your new hardware, Your hardware is ready to use… etc. I also tried connecting a printer to both ports, no reaction. Rebooted again with the stick in the USB slot, still nothing.

#WINDOWS 98 USB CONTROLLER DRIVER#

Found a supposed generic USB driver (nusb33.exe (sp?) and loaded it up. However – No system reaction, no drive in explorer. This tells me that there’s USB power at the port.

I plugged in an 8gig thumb drive and it’s light came on for about 2 seconds then extinguished.

Have an old generic Win98SE (I’ve verified it’s SE) system that I’m trying to use the USB ports on the back.
